Advances, challenges, and perspectives of biogas cleaning, upgrading, and utilisation

Biogas as a renewable energy resource can be broadly recognised carbon–neutral fuel which reduces anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, mitigates global warming, and diversifies supply. However, the biogas share in supply chain technology deployment maturity are not commensurate with potential. The first half of this study critically reviews state art developments cleaning upgrading technologies by considering their present status, current challenges, barriers associated future development. second part paper aims to address critical gaps converting biomethane, proposing required pre-treatment steps for different technologies. third focuses on policies concerning strict regulations implemented flaring consent applications. In section, were compared estimating warming potential (GWP) resulting from waste gases (WG). It was observed that due high methane losses, WGs membrane have highest GWP, but lowest GWP. last review, recent applications cogeneration (CHP), tri-generation (CCHP), quad-generation systems, heat, vehicles discussed. use technologies, efficiencies analysed CHP applications, including microturbines, micro humid air turbine (mHAT), solid oxide cells (SOFC) hybrid systems SOFC-microturbines.
